SJR73,1,32Whereas, Wisconsin has a committed history of being at the forefront of
3supporting equality for all its citizens; and
SJR73,1,74Whereas, in February 1982, Wisconsin made history when Governor Lee
5Sherman Dreyfus signed the nations first state law protecting lesbians and gay
6people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations;
7and
SJR73,1,118Whereas, in the intervening years, tremendous advancements have been
9made with respect to equitable treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and
10queer or questioning (LGBTQ) people both in Wisconsin and throughout the nation;
11and
SJR73,1,1312Whereas, Wisconsin elected the first openly LGBTQ member of the U.S.
13Senate, and the Wisconsin state legislature has 13 openly LGBTQ members; and
SJR73,2,214Whereas, in June 2014, same-sex couples were legally able to marry in

1Wisconsin, and the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the equal right to marriage for
2same-sex couples in all 50 states in June 2015; and
SJR73,2,53Whereas, despite these advances, LGBTQ people continue to face
4discrimination, and LGBTQ youth continue to be at increased risk for bullying,
5substance abuse, depression, homelessness, and suicide; and
SJR73,2,76Whereas, June has become a symbolic month in which LGBTQ people and
7their allies have come together in various celebrations of pride; and
SJR73,2,98Whereas, recognizing Pride Month will help foster an atmosphere of inclusion,
9acceptance, and celebration to the community; and
SJR73,2,1110Whereas, LGBTQ individuals, along with their families, friends and
11neighbors, will be honoring Pride Month in communities across our state; and
SJR73,2,1412Whereas, the month-long celebration is an opportunity for all people in the
13state to affirm their commitment to mutual respect and understanding; now,

16legislature recognizes June 2025 as LGBTQ Pride Month.
