SJR70,1,42Whereas, since the Revolutionary War, women have valiantly served in our 3nation’s military, ensuring the preservation of our security, values, and liberties; 4and SJR70,1,75Whereas, President Harry S. Truman signed the Women’s Armed Services 6Integration Act on June 12, 1948, enabling women to serve as permanent, regular 7members of the U.S. Armed Forces; and SJR70,1,98Whereas, many states recognize the anniversary of the Women’s Armed 9Services Integration Act’s signing as Women Veterans Day; and SJR70,1,1310Whereas, women are the fastest growing demographic in the national veteran 11population, with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs projecting that women 12will constitute nearly one-fifth of the national veteran population by 2040, 13compared to just 4 percent in 2000; and SJR70,2,214Whereas, the State of Wisconsin Women’s Council estimates that Wisconsin
1is currently home to over 29,000 women veterans, or about 10 percent of the state’s 2veteran population; and SJR70,2,53Whereas, Wisconsin’s women veterans continue to serve in vital roles after 4the end of their military service, including as mothers, community leaders, 5businesswomen, educators, and beyond; and SJR70,2,86Whereas, women veterans experience higher rates of post-traumatic stress 7disorder, sexual violence, and unemployment compared to veterans who are men; 8and SJR70,2,119Whereas, the State of Wisconsin strives to address these challenges so that 10our women veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, in 11recognition of their immeasurable sacrifices; now, therefore, be it SJR70,2,1512Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of 13the Wisconsin State Legislature proclaim June 12, 2025, as Women Veterans Day 14and commend Wisconsin’s women veterans for their invaluable courage and 15dedication in their service of this country.
