AJR79,,33Whereas, October 28, 2023, is recognized nationally as First Responders Appreciation Day; and AJR79,,44Whereas, first responders include all professional and volunteer police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel; and AJR79,,55Whereas, first responders risk their safety on a daily basis to protect the public from threats and emergency situations and provide lifesaving services; and AJR79,,66Whereas, first responders stand ready to serve and protect the public 24 hours per day; and AJR79,,77Whereas, there are approximately 4.6 million first responders in the United States serving in disciplines such as law enforcement, emergency management, emergency medical services, fire and rescue, and public works; and AJR79,,88Whereas, in Wisconsin, there are over 4,728 career fire fighters, 21,000 volunteer fire fighters, 14,450 law enforcement officers, and 17,426 career and volunteer EMS personnel; and AJR79,,99Whereas, first responders are vital to ensuring safety and security in our nation, state, and communities and deserve to be honored and recognized for their commitment to providing safety and lifesaving services; now, therefore, be it AJR79,,1010Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes October 17, 2023, as First Responders Appreciation Day.
