AJR72,,33Whereas, August is National Immunization Awareness Month; and AJR72,,44Whereas, nearly a million students will return to Wisconsin schools at the end of August and beginning of September; and AJR72,,55Whereas, state law requires K-12 students to receive certain immunizations to maintain herd immunity and protect the health of those who are unable to receive those immunizations; and AJR72,,66Whereas, immunizations are considered to be one of the greatest modern medical discoveries of the past century; and AJR72,,77Whereas, vaccines are estimated to have prevented 26.8 million hospitalizations and 936,000 deaths among children born in the United States between 1994 and 2018; and AJR72,,88Whereas, the World Health Organization estimates that each year, immunization prevents 3.5 to 5 million deaths globally due to over 20 life-threatening diseases; and AJR72,,99Whereas, vaccinations are necessary and safe for the overwhelming majority of people and have been shown to prevent disease across the globe; now, therefore, be it AJR72,,1010Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature recognize August 2023 as Immunization Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
