AJR40,,33Whereas, the construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries, and those in the skilled trades work in critical, rewarding, high-paying, high-demand jobs that cannot be outsourced overseas; and AJR40,,44Whereas, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors, over one in four construction workers are over 55 years old, and the construction industry will need to attract an estimated 546,000 additional workers on top of the normal pace of hiring in 2023; and AJR40,,55Whereas, Wisconsin’s world-renowned registered apprentice program allows inexperienced individuals of any age to participate in structured, on-the-job training with classroom instruction where they earn while they learn; and AJR40,,66Whereas, according to the Wisconsin Technical College System, the annual median salary for all graduated construction apprentices is $87,000; and AJR40,,77Whereas, National Skilled Trades Day was created to help raise awareness of the important work of those men and women who build the places where we all live, work, play, worship, learn, and heal; now, therefore, be it AJR40,,88Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature celebrates May 5, 2023, as Skilled Trades Day in Wisconsin.
