Whereas, Cesar Chavez was born March 31, 1927, near Yuma, Arizona; and

5rights and labor rights activist for his work organizing migrant farm workers in

Whereas, Chavez became a migrant farm worker in California while in middle
8school to support his family; and

Whereas, he joined the United States Navy in 1946 and served for two years;

Whereas, Chavez became an organizer for and eventually the national director
12of the Community Service Organization, where he focused on voter registration for
13Mexican Americans; and

Whereas, Cesar Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association in
151962, which became the United Farm Workers; and

1Whereas, the United Farm Workers organized thousands of migrant farm
2workers and came to represent more than 50,000 agricultural workers; and

Whereas, Chavez, through nonviolent protests, boycotts, marches, and hunger

5wages for thousands of migrant farm workers; and
