SJR31,1,1 1Relating to: honoring the life and service of Pastor Jerome Smith Sr.
SJR31,1,32 Whereas, Pastor Jerome Smith Sr., a faithful servant of Milwaukee, passed
3away after twenty-four years of service to his community; and
SJR31,1,74 Whereas, Pastor Smith's years of service in Milwaukee have been marked by
5outstanding accomplishments, including the establishment of the Greater Praise
6Church of God in Christ and the creation of the Joseph Project through said church;
7and
SJR31,1,118 Whereas, Pastor Smith was directly responsible for many projects and
9developments that positively affect all of Milwaukee, including the Joseph Project,
10which, through the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ, provides employment
11opportunities, job training, transportation, and interview skills; and
SJR31,2,312 Whereas, Pastor Smith served his community in many capacities: pastor of the
13Greater Praise Church, founder of the Joseph Project, Trustee, Boys League
14President, Pastor's Aid President, Men Department President, Chairman of GSAC,
15Sunday School Teacher, Property Manager, Finance Committee Chair, District

1Public Relations, District Purity, District Missions President, Jurisdictional
2Missions Department Chairman, and Jurisdictional Home and Foreign Missions
3President; and
SJR31,2,94 Whereas, Pastor Smith is survived by his wife of thirty years, Markeitha, his
5children, Lakeitha, Joyce, Jerome Jr., Donna, and Denise, and many grandchildren;
6had many hobbies, especially spending time with family members and his church
7community; was a giver, which was evident in his pastoral career; and made a lasting
8impact on his community through selflessness and passion for Milwaukee; now,
9therefore, be it
SJR31,2,12 10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
11Legislature does hereby honor the life of Pastor Jerome Smith Sr. and commend him
12for his service to Milwaukee that has left an indelible mark on the city.
