Whereas, jobs in the highly skilled construction trades are the backbone of our
5economy; and

Whereas, construction opportunities should be inclusive so that more people
7have access to family sustaining lifetime careers without regard to gender or labor

Whereas, national Women in Construction week highlights the role of women
10as a visible component of the construction industry; and

Whereas, by raising awareness of the opportunities available for women in the
12construction industry, the growth of women in the construction industry can be
13achieved and celebrated; and

Whereas, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National
15Association of Women in Construction, since 2010 the number of women in
1construction has increased from 807,000 to over 1,000,000, making up nearly 10
2percent of the total construction workforce, but around 1 percent of the front line
3positions on a job site; and

Whereas, women currently make up 3 percent of active construction
5apprentices in the state, which definitely shows room for improvement but is the
6highest participation level ever in Wisconsin's world-class apprenticeship program;

senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin Legislature join in declaring March 7, 2021, to March 14, 2021, as Women
10in Construction week and celebrate the wide reaching contributions of women in
11construction as well as all those who have dedicated their careers to improving our
12communities.
