AJR93,1,63 Whereas, the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) is the largest
4national association representing massage therapists and the massage industry
5profession, with over 95,000 members across the country, and the Wisconsin Chapter
6of the AMTA, which consists of over 2,000 members; and
AJR93,1,87 Whereas, massage therapy is beneficial to overall health and is increasingly
8part of integrated health care; and
AJR93,1,109 Whereas, massage therapy is beneficial for the treatment of both chronic and
10acute pain for people of all ages; and
AJR93,2,311 Whereas, massage therapy is effective as a nonpharmacologic treatment for
12chronic pain management (such as back pain, headache, carpal tunnel syndrome,
13osteoarthritis, neck and shoulder pain, fibromyalgia, and hospice care), behavioral
14health treatment (anxiety and stress, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorder
15recovery), rehabilitation/physical training (athletic training/injury treatment,

1ergonomics and job-related injuries, cardiac rehab, joint replacement surgery, and
2scar management), and acute medical conditions (cancer management,
3post-operative pain, lymphatic drainage, and maternity and newborn care); and
AJR93,2,74 Whereas, the AMTA, a professional association for massage therapists,
5provides consumer and professional education information on massage and helps
6consumers and health professionals locate qualified, licensed massage therapists in
7their area; and
AJR93,2,98 Whereas, Massage Therapy Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise
9public awareness of the potential benefits of massage therapy; now, therefore, be it
AJR93,2,12 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
11Legislature proclaims October 24 to 30, 2021, as National Massage Therapy
12Awareness Week.
