1Relating to: honoring the service of members of the U.S. Armed Forces in
2Afghanistan.
3 Whereas, our U.S. military, along with its allies, ensured a generation of
4educational and societal opportunities for the women and children of Afghanistan;
5and
6 Whereas, our U.S. military, along with its allies, provided 20 years of security
7and safety for America's homeland; and
8 Whereas, since October 2001, more than 800,000 U.S. military service
9members have served in Afghanistan; and
10 Whereas, 2,327 U.S. service members gave their lives in the line of duty in
11Afghanistan; and
12 Whereas, the U.S. military was ordered to evacuate from an inadequate,
13ill-equipped airport with insufficient planning, precautions, or American service
14members; and

1Whereas, from August 15, 2021, to August 31, 2021, U.S. service members
2evacuated more than 100,000 airmen, guardsmen, soldiers, sailors, marines, and
3civilians after Kabul fell to the Taliban; and
4 Whereas, these brave men and women were heroically dedicated to limiting the
5number of American citizens and allies stranded in Afghanistan; and
6 Whereas, their lives were in constant mortal danger from various Islamic
7terrorist groups including the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS-K; and
8 Whereas, on August 26, 2021, 13 U.S. service members were killed at Kabul
9Airport by ISIS-K; and
10 Whereas, on August 30, 2021, American forces completed their withdrawal
11from Afghanistan; now, therefore, be it
12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
13Legislature joins in honoring the American airmen, guardsmen, soldiers, sailors,
14and marines who served in Afghanistan.
