AJR81,1,2 Relating to: honoring the service of members of the U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan.

AJR81,1,5 Whereas, our U.S. military, along with its allies, ensured a generation of educational and societal opportunities for the women and children of Afghanistan; and

AJR81,1,7 Whereas, our U.S. military, along with its allies, provided 20 years of security and safety for America's homeland; and

AJR81,1,9 Whereas, since October 2001, more than 800,000 U.S. military service members have served in Afghanistan; and

AJR81,1,11 Whereas, 2,327 U.S. service members gave their lives in the line of duty in Afghanistan; and

AJR81,1,14 Whereas, the U.S. military was ordered to evacuate from an inadequate, ill-equipped airport with insufficient planning, precautions, or American service members; and

AJR81,2,3 Whereas, from August 15, 2021, to August 31, 2021, U.S. service members evacuated more than 100,000 airmen, guardsmen, soldiers, sailors, marines, and civilians after Kabul fell to the Taliban; and

AJR81,2,5 Whereas, these brave men and women were heroically dedicated to limiting the number of American citizens and allies stranded in Afghanistan; and

AJR81,2,7 Whereas, their lives were in constant mortal danger from various Islamic terrorist groups including the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS-K; and

AJR81,2,9 Whereas, on August 26, 2021, 13 U.S. service members were killed at Kabul Airport by ISIS-K; and

AJR81,2,11 Whereas, on August 30, 2021, American forces completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan; now, therefore, be it

AJR81,2,14 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature joins in honoring the American airmen, guardsmen, soldiers, sailors, and marines who served in Afghanistan.
