AJR76,1,42 Whereas, after 38 years of service to Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC), Dr.
3Susan May will retire from her position as president and chief executive officer on
4July 31, 2021; and
AJR76,1,85 Whereas, Dr. May earned her bachelor's degree in education from the
6University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1978, her master's degree in vocational education
7administration from UW-Stout in 1991, and her doctorate in vocational, technical,
8and occupational education from Nova Southeastern University in 1998; and
AJR76,1,119 Whereas, Dr. May joined FVTC in 1983 as an adult continuing education
10specialist, and she has taken on a variety of roles and responsibilities throughout her
11tenure; and
AJR76,1,1412 Whereas, Dr. May began serving as chief academic officer in 1997 and as
13executive vice president beginning in 2005, two roles in which she had responsibility
14for all instructional programming, as well as business and industry services; and

1Whereas, Dr. May was named president and chief executive officer of FVTC in
22008, and she has served as an accomplished leader in that position for over a decade;

AJR76,2,64 Whereas, throughout her tenure, Dr. May has developed FVTC's service to
5business and industry, bringing recognition to the college both statewide and
6nationally for its customized contract training services; and
AJR76,2,97 Whereas, through community outreach efforts led by Dr. May, FVTC has seen
8the growth and development of several regional and specialized centers, including
9new facilities in Clintonville, Chilton, Waupaca, Oshkosh, and Wautoma; and
AJR76,2,1310 Whereas, under Dr. May's leadership, a $66.5 million capital referendum was
11passed in 2012, allowing for the construction of a new public safety training center,
12which is the only fully integrated and multi-disciplinary training facility in the
13Midwest; and
AJR76,2,1714 Whereas, Dr. May has overseen the growth of FVTC's extensive federal grant
15portfolio, which includes substantial national training efforts in criminal justice and
16child protection, as well as major curriculum advancements using digital technology;
17and
AJR76,2,2118 Whereas, under the direction of Dr. May, FVTC successfully navigated the
19challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, creating instructional models in
20alternative delivery formats for nearly 250 associate degrees, technical diplomas,
21certificate programs, and seminars; and
AJR76,3,522 Whereas, throughout her tenure, Dr. May has earned numerous awards and
23honors, including the Administrator of the Year Award from the Wisconsin East
24Central Association for Vocational Education, the National Chair Academy's
25Outstanding Leadership Award, the State Agriculture Education Leadership

1Award, the Fox Cities Woman Manager of the Year Award, the Athena Award from
2the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Thomas G. Scullen
3Educational Leadership Award, UW-Stout's Career and Technical Education
4“Executive in Residence” Award, the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, and the
5Fox Cities Chamber Pinnacle Award; and
AJR76,3,96 Whereas, Dr. May has served in various officer and committee chair positions
7at the Wisconsin Technical College System level, serving most recently as president
8of the Wisconsin Technical College System President's Association during the
92013-14 academic year; and
AJR76,3,1210 Whereas, Dr. May is highly regarded by her colleagues for her leadership,
11mentorship, collaboration, and deep understanding of Wisconsin's educational
12system; and
AJR76,3,1513 Whereas, throughout her career, Dr. May has had a positive impact on the lives
14of countless FVTC students and has established a standard of excellence for the
15Wisconsin Technical College System; now, therefore, be it
AJR76,3,18 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
17Wisconsin State Legislature honor the career of Dr. Susan May and celebrate her
18retirement from Fox Valley Technical College.
