AJR76,1,1 Relating to: honoring the career and accomplishments of Dr. Susan May.

AJR76,1,4 Whereas, after 38 years of service to Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC), Dr. Susan May will retire from her position as president and chief executive officer on July 31, 2021; and

AJR76,1,8 Whereas, Dr. May earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1978, her master's degree in vocational education administration from UW-Stout in 1991, and her doctorate in vocational, technical, and occupational education from Nova Southeastern University in 1998; and

AJR76,1,11 Whereas, Dr. May joined FVTC in 1983 as an adult continuing education specialist, and she has taken on a variety of roles and responsibilities throughout her tenure; and

AJR76,1,14 Whereas, Dr. May began serving as chief academic officer in 1997 and as executive vice president beginning in 2005, two roles in which she had responsibility for all instructional programming, as well as business and industry services; and

AJR76,2,3 Whereas, Dr. May was named president and chief executive officer of FVTC in 2008, and she has served as an accomplished leader in that position for over a decade; and

AJR76,2,6 Whereas, throughout her tenure, Dr. May has developed FVTC's service to business and industry, bringing recognition to the college both statewide and nationally for its customized contract training services; and

AJR76,2,9 Whereas, through community outreach efforts led by Dr. May, FVTC has seen the growth and development of several regional and specialized centers, including new facilities in Clintonville, Chilton, Waupaca, Oshkosh, and Wautoma; and

AJR76,2,13 Whereas, under Dr. May's leadership, a $66.5 million capital referendum was passed in 2012, allowing for the construction of a new public safety training center, which is the only fully integrated and multi-disciplinary training facility in the Midwest; and

AJR76,2,17 Whereas, Dr. May has overseen the growth of FVTC's extensive federal grant portfolio, which includes substantial national training efforts in criminal justice and child protection, as well as major curriculum advancements using digital technology; and

AJR76,2,21 Whereas, under the direction of Dr. May, FVTC successfully navigated the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, creating instructional models in alternative delivery formats for nearly 250 associate degrees, technical diplomas, certificate programs, and seminars; and

AJR76,3,5 Whereas, throughout her tenure, Dr. May has earned numerous awards and honors, including the Administrator of the Year Award from the Wisconsin East Central Association for Vocational Education, the National Chair Academy's Outstanding Leadership Award, the State Agriculture Education Leadership Award, the Fox Cities Woman Manager of the Year Award, the Athena Award from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Thomas G. Scullen Educational Leadership Award, UW-Stout's Career and Technical Education “Executive in Residence” Award, the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, and the Fox Cities Chamber Pinnacle Award; and

AJR76,3,9 Whereas, Dr. May has served in various officer and committee chair positions at the Wisconsin Technical College System level, serving most recently as president of the Wisconsin Technical College System President's Association during the 2013-14 academic year; and

AJR76,3,12 Whereas, Dr. May is highly regarded by her colleagues for her leadership, mentorship, collaboration, and deep understanding of Wisconsin's educational system; and

AJR76,3,15 Whereas, throughout her career, Dr. May has had a positive impact on the lives of countless FVTC students and has established a standard of excellence for the Wisconsin Technical College System; now, therefore, be it

AJR76,3,18 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature honor the career of Dr. Susan May and celebrate her retirement from Fox Valley Technical College.
