Whereas, Chancellor Shields has served as a skilled, efficient, and dynamic
7leader of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville since 2010, dedicated to improving

Whereas, Chancellor Shields oversaw the merger of the University of
10Wisconsin-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County and the University of
11Wisconsin-Platteville Richland, ensuring the transition was smooth and everyone's
12voices were heard; and

Whereas, Chancellor Shields worked with the legislature and Governor Scott
14Walker to provide the resources needed to renovate classrooms, labs, and meeting
15spaces at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Boebel Hall and build the new
1Sesquicentennial Hall, which is a state-of-the-art engineering building, to help
2students reach their academic and professional goals; and

Whereas, Chancellor Shields earned a Bachelor in Business Administration
4from Graceland College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of

7higher education, serving as a bridge to middle-class Americans and Americans
8from underrepresented communities; and

Whereas, Chancellor Shields has served in many roles throughout his career,
10starting as the Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Iowa College of
11Law, where he helped to expand the diversity of candidates for admissions by a factor
12of two; and

Whereas, Chancellor Shields is the first Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion
14Working Group of the National Collegiate Athletics Association for Division III,
15working to foster equitable participation for student-athletes, coaches, and
16administrators from diverse backgrounds; and

Whereas, Chancellor Shields's focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion has
18helped the University of Wisconsin-Platteville evolve, as the number of students
19from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds has doubled throughout his time
