1Relating to: declaring February 22, 2022, as Supermarket Employee Day to
2celebrate the hardworking individuals in the retail food industry in Wisconsin
3and across the nation.
4 Whereas, there are nearly six million supermarket employees in the United
5States; and
6 Whereas, in Wisconsin there are 94,000 food retail jobs that generate $6.3
7billion in economic activity; and
8 Whereas, supermarket employees provide all Americans with access to safe,
9healthy, and affordable food; and
10 Whereas, supermarket employees work to enhance the health and well-being
11of each customer; and
12 Whereas, supermarket employees contribute and volunteer countless hours in
13their communities; and
14 Whereas, supermarket employees face unprecedented challenges keeping
15grocery shelves stocked during the COVID-19 pandemic; and

1Whereas, supermarket employees continue to meet and exceed these
2challenges, while displaying courage, compassion, dedication, and leadership, as
3well as exemplifying customer service and community outreach; and
4 Whereas, the need for supermarket employees is greater than ever because of
5current and growing consumer demand as well as their reputation for excellence;
6now, therefore, be it
7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
8State Legislature declares February 22, 2022, Supermarket Employee Day to
9celebrate the hardworking individuals in the retail food industry in Wisconsin and
10across the nation.
