SJR15,1,32 Whereas, Equal Pay Day occurs each year on the day when a woman has finally
3earned the same yearly salary as her male counterpart did the previous year; and
SJR15,1,64 Whereas, since World War II, when Wisconsin women worked in factories and
5shipyards, Wisconsin women have remained the most likely in the United States to
6be in the paid workforce—ranking fifth among the states; and
SJR15,1,97 Whereas, in 2016, about 1.4 million Wisconsin women were in the labor force
8(across all sectors), and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, this represented over
947 percent of the civilian employed population 16 years and over; and
SJR15,1,1210 Whereas, 2019 marks 100 years since the passage of the Nineteenth
11Amendment by Congress on June 4, 1919, which was one of the first steps in
12providing equal rights to women; and
SJR15,1,1513 Whereas, working Wisconsin women truly contribute to a profoundly better
14quality of life in our state by significantly raising the incomes of their families and
15their communities; and

1Whereas, Wisconsin narrowed its pay equity gap between 2004, when women
2earned on average 29 cents less per dollar than men, and 2016, when women earned
3on average 20 cents less per dollar; and
SJR15,2,64 Whereas, continued progress in narrowing the pay equity gap in Wisconsin will
5help greatly to maintain Wisconsin's overall high quality of life; now, therefore, be

8recognizes Tuesday, April 2, 2019, as Equal Pay Day in Wisconsin.
