Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Monona Grove High School senior McKenna Warnock as the Gatorade 2019 Wisconsin girls basketball player of the year. This award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and excellence of character. McKenna led her Silver Eagles basketball team to the Badger Conference South Championship. She is a three time conference first team selection and a two time all-state first team honoree. This season McKenna averaged 29.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists while maintaining a 4.0 GPA and volunteering on behalf of a homeless shelter and youth sports camps. Her Wisconsin fans will likely get to see her playing at the Kohl Center in the future as McKenna has signed her letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Iowa.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Nicolet Knight boys’ basketball team who won their first WIAA Division 2 State Title on March 17, 2019 with a 67-54 victory over Milwaukee Washington. The Knights finished the season 27-1 and ranked #9 in the nation according to MaxPreps. The team was led by the AP Player of the Year in Wisconsin and unanimous first time all-state, Jalen Johnson. Congratulations to head coach Allan Hanson and his team on a historic season.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Bay Port Girls Division 1 Basketball Championship. They had a thrilling last second victory, winning 50-49. They are coached by former UW-Green Bay star, Kati Coleman.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Coach Tony Bennett, a former UW-Green Bay basketball player, for leading the University of Virginia men’s basketball team to their first championship.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of John Maurer, who passed away on March 31. Born in Kenosha, John lived a full life.  He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and commanded a B24 “Liberator” as part of the 15th Air Force.  After the war, John attended Marquette University before becoming a pilot with United Airlines. John then devoted his life to public service, becoming Pleasant Prairie Town Chairman before being elected to the State Senate from the 22nd Senate District.  During his time in the Senate, John was known for his knowledge of the state budget and his ability to work across party lines and served as Vice Chair of the Joint Finance Committee.  In May 1985, John was appointed Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and served under both Democratic and Republicans Governors.  He was a fierce advocate for our state’s veterans; he was instrumental in creating the state Veterans Museum in Madison, and Maurer Hall at the Veterans Home at Union Grove is named after him. John was an avid golfer and had a great sense of humor.  He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his daughter, Lisa (Patrick) Wells and son, Thomas Maurer; and his grandchildren, Noah, John and Levi. John was a major figure in the Kenosha community and was respected and admired by many. He will be missed.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of National Crime Victim’s Rights Week. This annual observance promotes victims’ rights and services. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan established this week to help provide for victims of crimes. Victims, Senator Wanggaard stands with you.

Congrats on 90 years, here’s to many more!
