Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Officer John Hetland. On the night of June 17, 2019, Officer John Hetland took action, intervening in an armed robbery at a local establishment despite technically being “off duty”.  Being true to his character and displaying courage and selflessness, John ultimately gave his life to protect his fellow community members and uphold the law. Officer John Hetland began his law enforcement career with the Racine Police Department in 1995 and was a trusted and highly respected member of the department.  He displayed great leadership during his 24 years with the Racine Police Department, honorably serving in various positions throughout his career, including as a field training officer and a member of the Greater Racine FBI Gang Task Force. John will be remembered for having a servant’s heart, always volunteering his time and talents to better the community and for making a profound and positive impact in community. John was a loving son to Ronald and Rachelle Hetland and a devoted father to Hunter and Brooke.  In addition, John was known to many, including myself, as a dedicated and faithful friend. Today, his family laid John to rest. Senator Wanggaard would like to adjourn in honor of Officer John Hetland and his family for their sacrifice and dedication to the community of Racine.  We will always remember his courage and heroism.  “Always on duty.”
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Officer Hetland. Bravery and courage are scarce commodities in our society. He show both of them in fighting for our people, and he paid for it with his life. May he rest in peace.
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Bob Lang and his team at the Fiscal Bureau for again putting forward the hard work that they do and the numerous briefings, the late nights, and the requests that we ask of them.
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of our Joint Finance members and their staff for the hard work they have put and the long hours.
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of all of our staffs, particularly her staff who worked on the budget and the amendments. She thanks those who picked up the slack when all of our responsibilities were really focused on the budget, but a special thank you to Mark and Tony, who along with our communications team were really messaging on this and putting forward information on the budget. She thanks those in the front office who kept us up on constituent work both state and district wide.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Pat Finder-Stone, who passed away at 90 after a brief illness. She was a mom, grandma, registered nurse, educator, veteran, community activist, and adventure traveler.
Senator Bernier, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her oldest grandson, Elijah Joseph Bernier, who will be graduation from the Marine Corps on Friday.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Officer Her, who was killing in a crash in Milwaukee by an OWI driver.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Director Lang for being a fantastic leader and all he did for this budget.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of all of the people on Joint Finance and their staffs. Thank you for your hard work.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Majority Leader and Minority Leader because there are not easy days for you.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of all of her colleagues for their participation in this budget.
Senator Johnson, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Officer Kou Her, who was killed in the line of duty.
Senator Smith, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of his alma mater Eau Claire North High School. He know it may be hard to believe looking at him, but Eau Claire North High School has always produced great athletes and especially their baseball team for years and for many years and the last two decades actually they’ve been very consistently good; the last several years, they've been in the finals or in the in the state tournaments. In twenty eleven they won it, and this year they won the division one state championship again, and that by the State player of the year Sam Steyn also was a State player of the year in hockey, so they've had a tremendous year at Eau Claire North High School, and Senator Smith thinks they should be commended for that.
Senator Schachtner, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of certified nursing assistants (CNAs) across Wisconsin. CNAs are on the frontline of Wisconsin’s health care system. Senator Schachtner would especially like to honor and recognize the 2,007 CNAs registered in Senate District 10.
