2020 Legislative Interim Research Report on District Attorney Funding

This report will describe how the state provides funding for district attorneys, deputy district attorneys, and assistant district attorneys (prosecutors), including a description of the weighted caseload formula and how positions are allocated statewide. In addition, this report will include recommendations from prosecutors and other stakeholders for alternative funding approaches to provide funding for prosecutors that will allow for adequate prosecutorial staffing without creating incentives to overcharge or discouraging appropriate diversion programs.
