ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 1, TO ASSEMBLY BILL 640

AB640-AA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

AB640-AA1,1,4 1. Page 4, line 6: delete “district." and substitute “district and has mentored a first-year teacher or a teacher who is newly employed by an employing school district.".

AB640-AA1,1,5 2. Page 4, line 8: delete “provisional" and substitute “Tier I".

AB640-AA1,1,7 3. Page 4, line 12: delete “one school year." and substitute “3 consecutive school years.".

AB640-AA1,1,8 4. Page 4, line 12: after that line insert:

AB640-AA1,1,10 “(b) The individual has earned at least 60 credits from an accredited institution of higher education or technical college or has earned an associate degree.

AB640-AA1,1,13 (c) The individual intends to obtain a bachelor's degree that includes such professional training as the department requires under s. 118.19 (3) and obtain a license to teach under s. PI 34.040 (2) (a), Wis. Adm. Code.”.

AB640-AA1,2,1 5. Page 4, line 13: delete “(b)" and substitute “(d)".

AB640-AA1,2,2 6. Page 4, line 13: delete “a provisional" and substitute “the".

AB640-AA1,2,3 7. Page 4, line 19: delete “provisional".

AB640-AA1,2,4 8. Page 4, line 21: delete “(b)" and substitute “(d)".

AB640-AA1,2,8 9. Page 4, line 24: after “teacher." insert “The employing school district shall provide paid release time to the experienced teacher to observe the license holder teaching and provide feedback to the license holder about the experienced teacher's observations.".

AB640-AA1,2,9 10. Page 4, line 24: after that line insert:

AB640-AA1,2,13 “(c) The employing school district shall ensure that an individual holding a license issued under sub. (2) receives the professional development described in 2023 Wisconsin Act 20, section 27 (2) (a), before the individual teaches a grade from kindergarten to 3 in the employing school district.”.

AB640-AA1,2,14 11. Page 5, line 1: delete lines 1 to 8 and substitute:

AB640-AA1,2,18 “(4) A license issued under sub. (2) may be renewed once and only if the employing school district administrator or administrator's designee requests the renewal and provides evidence that the individual made substantial progress toward obtaining the bachelor's degree under sub. (2) (c) during the initial 3-year term.”.
