2April 17 through April 19, 2025, as World IBS Days. SJR25,1,73Whereas, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a gastrointestinal disorder of gut-4brain interaction that is characterized by recurring abdominal pain, bloating, and 5altered bowel movement. Although many Americans suffer from individual 6symptoms, they do not realize it is a medical condition called IBS, and for this 7reason, it often goes undiagnosed by physicians and patients; and SJR25,1,108Whereas, the symptoms of IBS affect up to 20 percent of the population, or just 9over 35 million Americans. The quality of life is significantly lower in people 10suffering from the symptoms of IBS than in healthy people; and SJR25,1,1311Whereas, although IBS has a considerable impact on personal relationships 12and working practices, people with these symptoms often suffer in silence because 13of their reluctance to discuss their pain; and SJR25,2,314Whereas, a number of Wisconsin organizations, including the IBS Patient
1Support Group, are committed to supporting people suffering with the symptoms of 2IBS, by raising public awareness, discovering innovative therapies, and providing 3patient educational materials; and SJR25,2,54Whereas, Milwaukee’s iconic Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge will be lit purple 5on April 18 in solidarity with IBS patients; now, therefore, be it SJR25,2,106Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin 7Legislature hereby commends the IBS Patient Support Group on its recognition of 8April 17 through April 19, 2025, as World IBS Days and encourages all residents of 9Wisconsin to support and participate in organizations, events, and activities that 10raise awareness of IBS; and, be it further SJR25,2,1211Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded by the senate chief clerk 12to the IBS Patient Support Group.
