SJR15,1,64Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature condemns any pardon or sentence 5commutation for individuals found guilty of assaulting U.S. Capitol Police officers 6on January 6, 2021; and SJR15,1,107Whereas, on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump pardoned or 8commuted sentences of individuals who faced criminal prosecution, or were already 9serving sentences, for crimes including assault of law enforcement officers and 10crimes involving the use of deadly weapons against law enforcement officers; and SJR15,1,1211Whereas, law enforcement officers across Wisconsin put their lives at risk 12every day to protect our communities; and SJR15,2,213Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature supports the Wisconsin State
1Capitol Police in their important work to protect legislators, constitutional officers, 2justices, staff, state employees, and members of the public; and SJR15,2,73Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature concurs with the joint 4condemnation by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal 5Order of Police of these presidential pardons, which states that “crimes against law 6enforcement are not just attacks on individuals or public safety—they are attacks 7on society and undermine the rule of law”; now, therefore, be it SJR15,2,138Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin 9State Legislature affirms to law enforcement officers across Wisconsin that the 10legislature condemns the pardons and commutations of sentences for those found 11guilty of violent assaults against law enforcement, including U.S. Capitol Police 12officers, on January 6, 2021, and believe that such individuals should be held 13accountable for their actions.
