AJR52,1,43Whereas, according to the World Health Organization, one in six individuals 4have difficulty getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy; and AJR52,1,65Whereas, the World Health Organization and American Medical Association 6define infertility as a disease; and AJR52,1,97Whereas, infertility affects women and men equally and does not discriminate 8on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic 9level; and AJR52,1,1010Whereas, all individuals should have access to family-building options; and AJR52,1,1311Whereas, options for building a family include adoption and medical 12treatment for infertility, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and third-party 13reproduction; and AJR52,2,214Whereas, cost and lack of insurance coverage are barriers that many
1individuals in Wisconsin face in accessing the family-building options they need; 2and AJR52,2,43Whereas, raising awareness of infertility and the barriers faced by the family-4building community is the first step to removing these barriers; and AJR52,2,85Whereas, antiabortion legal strategies to confer legal “personhood” on 6fertilized eggs, zygotes, embryos, and fetuses are mounting across the country and 7threaten the ability of individuals to access birth control as well as IVF and other 8fertility treatments; now, therefore, be it AJR52,2,169Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of 10the Wisconsin State Legislature hereby affirm the legal right of patients with 11infertility to undergo IVF and other fertility treatments; reject the notion of 12embryonic or fetal “personhood”; join RESOLVE: The National Infertility 13Association and the dedicated volunteers, health care professionals, and members 14of the infertility and family-building community by participating in this promotion; 15and proclaim April 20 to 26, 2025, as National Infertility Awareness Week in 16Wisconsin.
