AJR15,1,52Whereas, epilepsy is a neurological disorder producing brief disturbances in
3the normal electrical functions of the brain that temporarily affects a persons
4consciousness, bodily movements, or sensations, while creating long-term effects on
5the lifestyle of individuals with epilepsy; and
AJR15,1,76Whereas, one in 26 people will develop epilepsy and one in 10 people will have
7a seizure during his or her lifetime; and
AJR15,1,98Whereas, epilepsy can affect anyone, regardless of gender, race, age, religion,
9educational background, or socioeconomic status; and
AJR15,1,1110Whereas, epilepsy affects more than 50 million people worldwide, nearly three
11million Americans, and around 60,000 Wisconsinites; and
AJR15,2,212Whereas, although there is no known cure for epilepsy, existing drug therapy,
13surgery, and other non-pharmacological treatments enable up to 70 percent of

1individuals with epilepsy to lead normal lives with no seizures or with a significant
2reduction in seizures; and
AJR15,2,43Whereas, epilepsy is a complex disorder that requires further research to find
4a cure, additional treatment options, and prevention; and
AJR15,2,65Whereas, epilepsy and seizure disorders limit options for convenient,
6affordable, and accessible transportation; and

8respond with appropriate first aid; and
AJR15,2,129Whereas, the annual observance of Purple Day on March 26 advocates for the
10rights, humane treatment, and appropriate education of all individuals with
11epilepsy, while raising awareness in families, professionals, and the general public
12to better understand this lifelong disorder; now, therefore, be it
AJR15,2,1813Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
14proclaims March 26, 2025, as Purple Day, invites all Wisconsinites to participate by
15wearing purple, and calls upon all citizens, government agencies, public and private
16institutions, businesses, and schools to recommit their communities to increasing
17awareness and understanding of epilepsy through education while ensuring that all
18individuals with epilepsy lead full and productive lives; and, be it further
AJR15,2,2019Resolved, That the chief clerk of the assembly shall provide copies of this
20resolution to the Epilepsy Foundation Heart of Wisconsin.
