SJR86,,22Relating to: proclaiming the month of October 2023 as Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. SJR86,,33Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops beating; and SJR86,,44Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States with more than 356,000 people of all ages experiencing EMS-assessed out-of-hospital nontraumatic SCA each year; and SJR86,,55Whereas, approximately 90 percent of people who experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest die, many because of lack of readily available lifesaving medical equipment; and SJR86,,66Whereas, bystanders intervention can double or triple survival rates when cardiopulmonary resuscitation and early defibrillation with an automated external defibrillator are immediately administered; and SJR86,,77Whereas, comprehensive educational initiatives are needed to increase awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and its associated treatments among health professionals and the general public, in turn facilitating early detection and proper treatment; and SJR86,,88Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature has the opportunity to bring awareness to this vital public health issue; now, therefore, be it SJR86,,99Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature proclaim the month of October 2023 as Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month to promote awareness and early detection.
