SJR116,,33Whereas, the economic impact of Wisconsin’s construction industry totaled over $50 billion in economic output and contributed over $27 billion to the state’s GDP, according to the University of Colorado Boulder Leeds School of Business; and SJR116,,44Whereas, an estimated 400,000 new skilled workers are needed nationwide to fill construction jobs; and SJR116,,55Whereas, one in five construction workers in Wisconsin is 55 or older, making the need to fill construction jobs here even more dire; and SJR116,,66Whereas, women make up nearly 48 percent of the Wisconsin workforce, but only 9 percent of the Wisconsin construction industry workforce, which is below the national average of 14 percent; and SJR116,,77Whereas, jobs in the construction industry offer long-term, family-supporting careers; and SJR116,,88Whereas, national Women in Construction Week highlights the incredible initiatives and work of women within the construction industry; and SJR116,,99Whereas, national Women in Construction Week is observed to show our appreciation to those women who have contributed to the construction industry, while encouraging others to make the same commitment; and SJR116,,1010Whereas, by helping to raise awareness of the available opportunities for women in the construction industry, the numbers and achievements of women in the construction industry can continue to grow; now, therefore, be it SJR116,,1111Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature join in declaring March 3, 2024, to March 9, 2024 as Women in Construction Week and celebrating the countless contributions of women currently in the construction industry and those who paved the way.
