AJR24,,33Whereas, the compounding challenges of our time require resolve to uphold every person’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and, as such, demand the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and
AJR24,,44Whereas, now is the time to close the historical disparities that have existed for many disenfranchised Wisconsin communities; and
AJR24,,55Whereas, this legislative body is the most diverse legislative body in Wisconsin history, with unprecedented representation; and
AJR24,,66Whereas, with broad support for bold and progressive policy relating to our current reality, the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights is essential to the fulfillment of public service; and
AJR24,,77Whereas, the people of Wisconsin, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability status, immigration status, and country of origin, are entitled to the freedoms expressed in the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and
AJR24,,88Whereas, these Rights will set the foundation for a prosperous Wisconsin that works for all; and
AJR24,,99Whereas, we declare that the Economic Justice Bill of Rights includes the following:
AJR24,,10101. A job that provides dignity at work and pays a living wage;
AJR24,,11112. Adequately funded public education and affordable, accessible child care;
AJR24,,12123. A union, public or private, and collective bargaining;
AJR24,,13134. Affordable, accessible, and comprehensive high-quality health care;
AJR24,,14145. A clean, sustainable environment and healthy planet;
AJR24,,15156. Decent, sustainable community infrastructures including safe, affordable housing, transportation, and broadband;
AJR24,,16167. Equitable access to capital, investments, financial institutions, and retirement;
AJR24,,17178. A fair, restorative, and equitable justice system;
AJR24,,18189. Recreation and participation in community and civic life; and
AJR24,,191910. Life, self-determination, and freedom from oppressions; now, therefore, be it
AJR24,,2020Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the time has come to renew the progressive tradition of Wisconsin through the Economic Justice Bill of Rights and in a 21st-century fashion.
