Minority Report
On February 15, 2024, Senator Carpenter offered the following minority report, pursuant to Senate Rule 28, to the Senate Committee on Health:
Concerning committee action on 2023 Wisconsin Senate Bills 1014 and 1015
Senate Bills 1014 and 1015 were introduced without circulation seeking cosponsorship, and brought up for a hearing and executive action within less than a week.
The situation that these bills attempt to address is of grave concern to residents of the Chippewa Valley region, and to residents all across the state. That is why I believe it is important to bring all parties together in order to seek solutions that will support hospitals in this region and throughout Wisconsin.
Discussions to address this issue through legislation should include Senator Smith who represents the impacted area. Senator Smith has proposed amendments to these bills that he believes will make these bills stronger and better able to address the situation at hand by incorporating the Department of Health Services’ recommendations.
