Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Agard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Antwon and Legend Sims, who tragically lost their lives last week.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Rory James Rudolf, who was born on December 27, 2023 at 11:15pm to his parents Jamey Engels and Ryan Rudolf. Importantly, Rory is already a Packer fan in spite of his father’s allegiance to the Bears. More importantly, he is the first grandson of Tom and Judi Engels. Tom Engels our own Senate Sargent at Arms. Welcome to being grandparents.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Senate Sargent at Arms, Tom Engel, who turns 60 this Friday, January 19th. Happy Birth-week!
Senator Pfaff, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl. Like many in Wisconsin, Senator Pfaff was saddened to hear of his recent passing. Senator Pfaff loved the man. He learned so much from Senator Kohl over the years. He is humbled to have known him and had the opportunity to serve on his staff. He left a lasting impact on all of us. Senator Pfaff was proud to travel the state with him, and he will never forget his visit to his family’s farm in northern La Crosse County. He was a mentor, a friend, and a proud representative of the people of Wisconsin. He truly believed in the people of this state. He was nobody’s Senator but ours. His leadership always put the people of Wisconsin first, and he will be missed.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, who passed away on December 27, 2023.
Senator Spreitzer, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Darrah Chavey of Beloit, who recently passed away. Darrah was a professor at Beloit College, teaching mathematics and computer science. In addition to his work in math and computer science, Darrah and his wife Peggy were known for teaching ballroom dance at Beloit College, UW-Madison, and in the Beloit community. Darrah was known as an advocate for students. Darrah served as the long-time faculty advisor to the Beloit Science Fiction and Fantasy Association, Ballroom Club, and other student groups. Darrah was also an advocate for LGBTQ+ students and other marginalized groups, and never hesitated to use his role as a tenured professor to speak out on behalf of someone who needed that voice. Darrah Chavey will be deeply missed on campus and throughout the Beloit community. Senator Spreitzer is also thinking of Darrah’s children, grandchildren, and Peggy as they mourn his loss.
Senator Roys, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of what should have been the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
