Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Agard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the life of Cottage Grove Volunteer Firefighter, Gavin Thomas Wendricks, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident on October 28th. Gavin lived for only 20 years, but it is clear he had a monumental impact on the lives of his friends, family, and community, and he will be missed dearly. Gavin fulfilled his life-long dream of joining his local fire department in April of 2022 where his father, Paul, has served as a firefighter for over 20 years. From a young age, Gavin grew up watching his father’s public service with pride and vowed to follow in his footsteps as soon as he was old enough. Gavin was also passionate about the skilled trades, having graduated from Monona Grove High School in 2021 as a welder with the Dane County Youth Apprenticeship program. After high school, Gavin worked as a welder and heavy equipment operator, and recently obtained his commercial drivers license to become a grain hauler for ALCIVIA. He loved playing baseball. Senator Agard is so grateful for his service to their community.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Officer Anthony Schiro. Officer Schiro was in the US Navy, worked with the Wisconsin State Patrol and worked with the Racine Police Department for more than 25 years. Back in the day, Officer Schiro and his K9 officer Jolan were a prominent crime fighting duo in the community. Officer Schiro passed away earlier this week. He will be missed.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Union Grove boys soccer team. This was their first time at the state tournament and on November 4th, they won their first WIAA Division II state title. Go Broncos!
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Shoreland Lutheran Pacers of Somers who clinched the Division 4 boys soccer state title for the second time. Job well done.
