14“(cm) 1. Except as provided in subd. 3., an advanced practice registered nurse
15may practice advanced practice registered nursing only within the context of an
16employment relationship with an employer.

2. An advanced practice registered nurse or an applicant for a license under
18this section may apply to the board for authorization to practice advanced practice
19registered nursing outside the context of an employment relationship with employer
20in one of the 4 recognized roles by providing to the board evidence that the advanced
21practice registered nurse or applicant satisfies one of the following:

a. The person has at least one year of experience practicing in that recognized
23role after the person became licensed under this section as an advanced practice
24registered nurse.

1b. If the person held a license to practice nurse-midwifery under s. 441.15, 2021
2stats., the person has at least one year of experience practicing nurse-midwifery
3after the person first became licensed as a nurse-midwife.

c. If the person held a certificate to issue prescription orders under s. 441.16,
52021 stats., the person has at least one year of experience practicing in that
6recognized role after the person first became so certified.

d. If the person practiced in the recognized role outside this state, the person
8has at least one year of experience practicing in that recognized role outside this
9state.

3. If the board determined that an applicant or an advanced practice registered
11nurse has provided sufficient evidence of practice under subd 2. a., b., c., or d., the
12person may practice advanced practice registered nursing outside the context of an
13employment relationship with an employer in the recognized role corresponding to
14his or her experience. In that case, a notation to this effect shall appear on the
15person's advanced practice registered nurse license alongside the corresponding
16specialty designation under sub. (1) (b) 2.”.
