EXECUTIVE ORDER #19
Relating to the Creation of the Committee to Celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of Wisconsin’s Ratification of the 19th Amendment
WHEREAS, on June 10, 1919 Wisconsin made history by becoming the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution granting national suffrage to women;
WHEREAS, Wisconsin’s ratification came after tears of work by many women’s rights groups that began working on the issue even before Wisconsin’s statehood;
WHEREAS, Wisconsin’s early and important ratification paved the way for other states to ratify the 19th Amendment; and
WHEREAS, states across the nation are celebrating the 19th Amendment and the date of their state’s ratification.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TONY EVERS, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the Laws of the State, including Section 14.019 of the Wisconsin Statutes, do hereby create the Committee to Celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of Wisconsin’s Ratification of the 19th Amendment (“Committee”) and order the following:

The Committee shall be charged with the following:
a
a.
Educate the public on the historical importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and Wisconsin’s role in the fight for women’s suffrage;
b
b.
Plan and prepare educational activities and an educational toolkit for teachers and students across Wisconsin to learn more about the suffrage movement and the ratification of the 19th Amendment;
c
c.
Plan an event celebrating Wisconsin becoming the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment;
d
d.
Engage the public from across Wisconsin in the celebration;
e
e.
Coordinate and promote related events and activates across the state; and
f
f.
Ensure that the education components, evens, and celebration of Wisconsin ratifying the 19th Amendment acknowledge that the 19th Amendment did not guarantee the right for all women to vote.

The Governor shall appoint an individual as chair of the Committee and shall appoint additional committee members as follows:
a
a.
All women members of the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation;
b
b.
All women Tribal Leaders;
c
c.
All women Constitutional Officers of Wisconsin;
d
d.
All women Justices of the Wisconsin Supreme Court;
e
e.
All women Cabinet Members;
f
f.
All women members of the Legislature;
g
g.
Two women former Lieutenant Governors of Wisconsin, one from each partisan caucus;
h
h.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women’s Council;
i
i.
One woman who represents the League of Women Voters;
j
j.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women in Government;
k
k.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women’s Network;
l
l.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Historical Society;
m
m.
One woman who serves as a Gender and Women’s Studies Librarian from the University of Wisconsin System; and
n
n.
Other women as necessary to achieve the mandate of the Committee.

The Committee shall have an Executive Committee. The chair of the Committee shall chair the Executive Committee and additional committee members will serve on Executive Committee as follows:
a
a.
All women members of the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation or their designee;
b
b.
One woman Tribal Leader;
c
c.
All women Constitutional Officers of Wisconsin;
d
d.
One woman Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court;
e
e.
Women members of the Legislature, representing each partisan caucus;
f
f.
Two women former Lieutenant Governors of Wisconsin, one from each partisan caucus;
g
g.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women’s Council;
h
h.
One woman who represents the League of Women Voters;
i
i.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women in Government;
j
j.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Women’s Network;
k
k.
One woman who represents the Wisconsin Historical Society; and
l
l.
One woman who serves as a Gender and Women’s Studies Librarian from the University of Wisconsin System.

The Committee shall terminate on September 30, 2020.
