Speaker’s Communications
December 10, 2019
The Honorable Tony Evers
Governor of the State of Wisconsin
115 East, Sate Capitol
Madison, WI 53702
Dear Governor Evers:
Wisconsin continues on the path to greater prosperity that began in 2011 – balanced budgets, lower taxes, low unemployment, and a positive business climate. Despite all the good news seen here and around the nation in recent years, there are warning signs on the horizon.
When you assumed office, unemployment was at a historic low. The unemployment rate, however, has ticked up consistently over the past five months. At the same time, Wisconsin employers continue to struggle to find workers – qualified workers – for the good-paying job openings they have.
Workforce issues continue to present challenges to our state, but they also provide opportunities to move Wisconsin forward. We would like to learn more of your plans to address these and other issues in the coming year.
Therefore, it is our honor to invite you to deliver the State of the State address to a joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in the Assembly Chambers.
We look forward to hearing the address and working together to shape an even better future for our state and its citizens. Thank you for considering this request.
Sincerely,
Robin J. Vos
Assembly Speaker
ROGER ROTH
Senate President
