2019 Senate Joint Resolution 26
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming May as Lupus Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
Whereas, each year, the Lupus Foundation of America designates May as National Lupus Awareness Month to show support for the two million Americans who have Lupus, including 28,000 of whom reside in the state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, this mysterious, often misdiagnosed, and chronic autoimmune disease can be deadly, as inflammation attacks virtually any organ in the body, including the skin, heart, lungs, brain, kidneys, and joints; and
Whereas, the average time to diagnose a patient with lupus is between four to seven years, thereby allowing this disease to progress and delaying appropriate treatment; and
Whereas, those who are diagnosed are usually between the ages of 15 to 44, with 90 percent being female and 15 percent being children, and the disease is two-to-three times more prevalent in women of color; and
Whereas, currently, there is no cure for lupus; and
Whereas, the Lupus Foundation of America, Wisconsin Chapter, works tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for research, education, advocacy, and support for lupus patients, their families, and those who care for them; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes the month of May 2019 as National Lupus Awareness Month.
