MPSW 1.02(1g)(1g) “Board” means the marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, and social work examining board. MPSW 1.02(1q)(1q) “Credential” means a certificate or a license granted by the board. MPSW 1.02(2)(2) “Department” means the department of safety and professional services. MPSW 1.02(2d)(2d) “DSM” means the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders and refers to the most recent edition. MPSW 1.02(2h)(2h) “ICRC” means the international certification reciprocity consortium. MPSW 1.02(2m)(2m) “Psychotherapy” means the diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders, conditions, or addictions through the application of methods derived from established psychological or systemic principles for the purpose of assisting people in modifying their behaviors, cognitions, emotions, and other personal characteristics, which may include the purpose of understanding unconscious processes or intrapersonal, interpersonal, or psychosocial dynamics.
