NR 422.02(15)(15)“Clear coat” means a coating which lacks color and opacity or is transparent and uses the undercoat as a reflectant base or undertone color.
NR 422.02(15m)(15m)“Coating” means a material applied onto or impregnated into a substrate for protective, decorative, or functional purposes, including paints, varnishes, sealants, adhesives, inks, maskants, and temporary protective coatings.
NR 422.02(16)(16)“Coating applicator” means a device or devices used at a single location in a coating line to apply a surface coating of a particular material.
NR 422.02(17)(17)“Coating line” means one or more apparatus or operations, which may include a coating applicator, flashoff area and oven, wherein a surface coating is applied, dried or cured.
NR 422.02(18)(18)“Coil coating” means the coating of any flat metal sheet or strip that comes in rolls or coils.
NR 422.02(19)(19)“Conductive ink” means an ink used in screen printing which contains material that permits electric current to flow through printed lines or patterns.
NR 422.02(19f)(19f)
NR 422.02(19f)(a)(a) “Contact adhesive” means an adhesive that is all of the following:
NR 422.02(19f)(a)1.1. Designed for application to bond 2 surfaces together.
NR 422.02(19f)(a)2.2. Allowed to dry before the 2 surfaces are placed in contact with each other.
NR 422.02(19f)(a)3.3. Forms an immediate bond that is impossible, or difficult, to reposition after both adhesive-coated surfaces are placed in contact with each other.
NR 422.02(19f)(a)4.4. Does not need sustained pressure or clamping of surfaces after the adhesive-coated surfaces have been brought together using sufficient momentary pressure to establish full contact between both surfaces.
NR 422.02(19f)(b)(b) “Contact adhesive” does not include any of the following:
NR 422.02(19f)(b)1.1. Rubber cements that are primarily intended for use on paper substrates.
NR 422.02(19f)(b)2.2. Vulcanizing fluids that are designed and labeled for tire repair only.
NR 422.02(19m)(19m)“Container” means the individual receptacle that holds a coating or coating component for storage and distribution.
NR 422.02(19s)(19s)“Conventional air spray” means a spray coating method in which the coating is atomized by mixing it with compressed air and applied at an air pressure greater than 10 psig at the point of atomization.
NR 422.02 NoteNote: Airless and air assisted airless spray technologies are not conventional air spray because the coating is not atomized by mixing it with compressed air. Electrostatic spray technology is also not considered conventional air spray because an electrostatic charge is employed to attract the coating to the work piece.
NR 422.02(19v)(19v)“Cove base” means a flooring trim unit, generally made of vinyl or rubber, that has a concave radius on one edge and a convex radius on the opposite edge that is used in forming a junction between the bottom wall course and the floor or to form an inside corner.
NR 422.02(19x)(19x)“Cove base installation adhesive” means any adhesive intended by the manufacturer to be used for the installation of cove base or wall base on a wall or vertical surface at floor level.
NR 422.02(20)(20)“Cutback asphalt” means any asphalt which has been liquefied by blending with petroleum solvents (diluents) other than residual oils. Upon exposure to atmospheric conditions the diluents evaporate, leaving the asphalt to perform its function. Asphalt which contains less than 5% by weight petroleum solvents, disregarding any residual oils added, is not included in this definition.
NR 422.02(20m)(20m)“Cut-in clearcoat” or “jambing clearcoat” means a fast-drying, ready-to-spray clearcoat applied to surfaces such as door jambs and trunk and hood edges to allow for quick closure.
NR 422.02(20q)(20q)“Cyanoacrylate adhesive” means any adhesive with a cyanoacrylate content of at least 95 percent by weight.
NR 422.02(20u)(20u)“Dip coating” means a method of applying coatings in which the part to be coated is submerged in a tank filled with the coating.
NR 422.02(20y)(20y)“Drum” means any cylindrical metal shipping container larger than 12 gallons capacity but no larger than 110 gallons capacity.
NR 422.02(21)(21)“Elastomeric coating” means a coating that is specifically formulated for application over flexible parts such as filler panels and elastomeric bumpers.
NR 422.02(21d)(21d)“Electric dissipating coating” means a coating that rapidly dissipates a high voltage electric charge.
NR 422.02(21g)(21g)“Electric-insulating and thermal-conducting coating” means a coating that displays an electrical insulation of at least 1000 volts DC per mil on a flat test plate and an average thermal conductivity of at least 0.27 BTU per hour-foot-degree-Fahrenheit.
NR 422.02(21j)(21j)“Electric-insulating varnish” means a non-convertible-type coating applied to electric motors, components of electric motors, or power transformers, to provide electrical, mechanical, and environmental protection or resistance.
