SJR77,1,53Whereas, Representative Thomas “Tom” Hauke, a dedicated public servant, 4husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 1, 2023, at the age of 84, 5three days shy of his 85th birthday; and SJR77,1,76Whereas, Tom Hauke was born on May 4, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, as the 7second of three children to Charles and Ann Hauke; and SJR77,1,118Whereas, Tom Hauke graduated from Pulaski High School and went on to 9receive his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from Marquette University in 1960 10and 1967, respectively, and his master’s degree from the Milwaukee School of 11Engineering in 1971; and SJR77,1,1412Whereas, Tom Hauke worked for Allis Chalmers for four years after college, 13and, professionally, was an electrical engineer, attorney, and legislator from West 14Allis; and SJR77,2,2
1Whereas, Tom Hauke was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1972 and 2served until 1992, including serving as majority leader for four years; and SJR77,2,83Whereas, Tom Hauke served as the chair of several committees during his 4time in the assembly, including on the Assembly Committees on Elections, 5Financial Institutions and Insurance, and Rules; the Legislative Council Study 6Committee on State Deposit Guarantee Fund; and the Legislative Council Study 7Committee on Interest Rate Practices and the Subcommittee on Mortgage Loans; 8and SJR77,2,119Whereas, Tom Hauke fought against excessive partisanship that dominated 10legislative deliberations during his tenure in the legislature and never lost sight of 11his commitment to serve his constituents and to solve problems; and SJR77,2,1412Whereas, Tom Hauke was a loving husband to his wife of 53 years, Susan, 13father to his sons, Michael and Matthew, and grandfather to his granddaughter, 14Jaeda; and SJR77,2,1715Whereas, Representative Tom Hauke is remembered fondly for his big heart, 16kind sense of humor, commitment to bipartisanship, and his love for his family and 17the people of the state of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it SJR77,2,2018Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of 19the Wisconsin Legislature honor the life and public service of Representative 20Thomas A. Hauke and extend their condolences to his family and friends.
