SJR67,1,63Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson, a distinguished resident of Milwaukee and 4one of the last surviving members of the historic 6888th Central Postal Directory 5Battalion, also known as the Six Triple Eight, dedicated her life to serving our 6nation with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment; and SJR67,1,97Whereas, born in Mississippi and raised in Osceola, Arkansas, Anna Mae 8Robertson enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in 1943 during World War II, 9joining the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas; and SJR67,1,1210Whereas, upon arrival in England in early 1945, the battalion faced the 11formidable task of clearing a backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail, a mission 12critical to maintaining soldier morale; and SJR67,2,213Whereas, members of the battalion worked around the clock in eight-hour
1shifts under challenging conditions to clear the backlog in a record-breaking three 2months; and SJR67,2,53Whereas, after returning to the United States in 1946, Anna Mae Robertson 4settled in Milwaukee, dedicating her life to caring for others as a nurse’s aide and 5raising a family; and SJR67,2,96Whereas, after decades of being overlooked, Anna Mae Robertson’s invaluable 7contributions were finally recognized when Robertson was awarded various 8individual service medals in 2014 and her battalion was formally presented with 9the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal in 2025; and SJR67,2,1310Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson’s legacy is immortalized through her family 11and in documentaries, feature films, including the acclaimed film The Six Triple 12Eight, and public honors and heartfelt tributes from elected officials and artists 13alike; and SJR67,2,1514Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson passed away at the remarkable age of 101, 15leaving behind a profound legacy of resilience, service, and inspiration; and SJR67,2,1716Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson exemplified the highest ideals of duty, honor, 17and patriotism; now, therefore, be it SJR67,2,2218Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of 19the Wisconsin Legislature recognize and honor Anna Mae Robertson for her 20extraordinary achievements and service to our nation, extend their deepest 21gratitude and heartfelt condolences to her family, and acknowledge the enduring 22impact of her contributions to our state and our country.
