SJR64,1,53Whereas, Jack Vainisi began his stellar football career as a lineman at St. 4George High School and the University of Notre Dame, before being drafted into the 5United States Army; and SJR64,1,86Whereas, during his service in post-war Japan, Jack Vainisi worked in the 7headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur while also playing football on General 8MacArthur’s service team; and SJR64,1,109Whereas, Jack Vainisi unfortunately became ill with rheumatic fever, leading 10to a medical discharge and the end of his playing career; and SJR64,1,1211Whereas, Jack Vainisi later returned to the University of Notre Dame to 12complete his degree, graduating in 1950; and SJR64,1,1413Whereas, shortly after his graduation, the Green Bay Packers hired Jack 14Vainisi as a scout; and SJR64,2,3
1Whereas, Jack Vainisi revolutionized the scouting profession, establishing an 2extensive information network that allowed him to compile detailed scouting 3reports on more than 4,000 players throughout his career; and SJR64,2,64Whereas, Jack Vainisi personally encouraged Vince Lombardi to seek the 5position of head coach and general manager for the Green Bay Packers, leading to 6the establishment of one of the most dominant dynasties in football history; and SJR64,2,117Whereas, in addition to Lombardi, Jack Vainisi is credited with bringing a 8total of 12 other eventual Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees into the Packers 9organization: Herb Adderley, Willie Davis, Bobby Dillon, Forrest Gregg, Paul 10Hornung, Henry Jordan, Jerry Kramer, Ray Nitschke, Jim Ringo, Bart Starr, Jim 11Taylor, and Willie Wood; and SJR64,2,1412Whereas, in large part due to Jack Vainisi’s contributions, the Green Bay 13Packers won both Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II, as well as five National Football 14League championships; and SJR64,2,1715Whereas, Jack Vainisi was beloved by his team and colleagues, as 16demonstrated by the team’s attendance at his funeral after his tragic and untimely 17passing in 1960; and SJR64,2,2018Whereas, Jack Vainisi was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1982 in 19recognition of his invaluable contributions to the Green Bay Packers organization; 20and SJR64,2,2321Whereas, Jack Vainisi’s talents and accomplishments were recognized by his 22contemporaries, with former National Football League Commissioner Bert Bell 23describing him as “one of the best young executives and scouts in the league”; and SJR64,3,224Whereas, Jack Vainisi had an immeasurable and unmistakable impact on the
