2Agent Appreciation Week. AR9,1,43Whereas, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections has served Wisconsin 4since 1851; and AR9,1,55Whereas, Wisconsin hired its first probation officer in 1909; and AR9,1,86Whereas, the mission of the Department of Corrections includes protecting 7the public, providing opportunities for positive change, and collaborating with 8communities; and AR9,1,119Whereas, dedicated professional probation and parole agents are a critical 10component of the department’s mission and of the larger criminal justice system; 11and AR9,2,212Whereas, probation and parole agents enhance public safety through the 13reduction of offender risk by providing supervision and collaborating with
1community partners to assist individuals on probation, parole, or extended 2supervision to change their behavior and repair the harm they have done; and AR9,2,43Whereas, there are currently 218 probation offices and 1,200 probation and 4parole agents spread throughout the state; and AR9,2,85Whereas, the Department of Corrections currently serves over 63,000 clients 6on supervision, requiring probation and parole agents to manage complex 7caseloads, collaborate with external stakeholders, and enhance public safety 8through the successful reentry of clients; and AR9,2,119Whereas, probation and parole agents work tirelessly to provide individuals 10on supervision the opportunity to succeed while holding them accountable to their 11rules and conditions; now, therefore, be it AR9,2,1412Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes 13Probation and Parole Agent Appreciation Week as July 21, 2025, to July 27, 2025, to 14recognize agents’ crucial role in protecting the public.
