AR7,1,42Whereas, the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes the numerous Wisconsin women 3at the professional and collegiate levels who have led the way and are continuing to 4advance women’s achievements in athletics; and AR7,1,105Whereas, first, the University of Wisconsin’s Women’s Ice Hockey Team and 6their numerous Frozen Four Championships (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2019, 2021, 7and 2023). Numerous Badgers have been selected as the Frozen Four Most 8Outstanding Player: Jessie Vetter in 2006 and 2009, Sara Bauer in 2007, Meghan 9Duggan and Hilary Knight in 2011, Kristen Campbell in 2019, Makenna Webster in 102021, and Cami Kronish in 2023; and AR7,2,211Whereas, Margaret Danhauser was born in 1921 in Racine, Wisconsin. She 12was a member of the Racine Belles, playing at first base, in the All-American Girls 13Professional Baseball League. She won the first All-American Girls Professional 14Baseball League World Championship with the Belles in 1943. The 1992 film “A
1League of Their Own” is based on the Racine Belles and the All-American Girls 2Professional Baseball League; and AR7,2,63Whereas, Beth Heiden, a Madison native, won the bronze medal for the 3000-4meter speedskating event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. 5She is also one of two American women to have become world all-around champion, 6and was inducted in the National Speedskating Hall of Fame in 1989; and AR7,2,117Whereas, Gwen Jorgensen is a native of Waukesha and competed on the 8Wisconsin Badgers Swimming and Track and Field Teams. She won the World 9Championship in 2014 and 2015 before winning the gold medal in the triathlon at 10the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Gwen is now known as “Queen of Triathlon”; 11and AR7,2,1712Whereas, Bonnie Blair is a resident of Delafield, Wisconsin, and is one of the 13most decorated Olympians of all time. Blair won five gold medals between the 1988 14Calgary Winter Olympics, 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, and the 1994 15Lillehammer Winter Olympics as a speedskater. Bonnie has been inducted in the 16Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and was elected in the United States Olympic Hall 17of Fame in 2004; and AR7,2,2118Whereas, Chellsie Memmel is a West Allis native who competed in gymnastics 19at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She is decorated gymnast with three gold medals 20from the 2003 and 2005 World Championships and was inducted into the 21International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2022; now, therefore, be it AR7,2,2322Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes the 23achievements of women athletes in Wisconsin.
