AJR25,1,64Whereas, from 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis and
5their collaborators in the Holocaust as part of a systematic program of persecution
6culminating in genocide, and millions of other people were targeted and killed; and
AJR25,1,87Whereas, Jews who fell under German control in Eastern and Central Europe
8were quickly and cruelly stripped of their rights and property; and
AJR25,1,129Whereas, the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators
10comprised two-thirds of the European Jewish population, and in Poland, which
11before the second World War included parts of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus,
12the Jewish death toll was 90 percent; and
AJR25,2,213Whereas, the Holocaust represents a dark period in the history of civilization

1of mankind and must always be remembered in order to prevent its reoccurrence
2and promote respect and common humanity; and
AJR25,2,63Whereas, Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorates
4the millions of Jewish victims of the Holocaust, was established by the Israeli
5parliament, the Knesset, in 1951. It is observed on the 27th of Nisan in the Hebrew
6calendar, which marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising; and
AJR25,2,87Whereas, the year 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of
8Auschwitz-Birkenau; and
AJR25,2,129Whereas, remembrance ceremonies are held throughout the United States
10and around the world to remember the tragedy of the Holocaust, including at the
11Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., in the halls of the United Nations in New
12York City, and here in Wisconsin; and
AJR25,2,1713Whereas, following the recent acts of hatred and violence against the Jewish
14Community, it is critical that we stand together to combat and educate about the
15dangers of antisemitism and all forms of hate and bigotry in our communities and
16across this State, so we ensure that suffering on the scale of the Holocaust truly
17never does happen again; and

19be forgotten and that, particularly as survivors diminish in number, links must be
20forged to educate future generations; now, therefore, be it
