SJR92,,33Whereas, all human life is precious, and the targeting of civilians, no matter their faith or ethnicity, is a violation of international humanitarian law; and SJR92,,44Whereas, between October 7 and October 23, 2023, armed violence has claimed the lives of over 5,000 Palestinians and over 1,400 Israelis, including Americans, and wounded thousands more; and SJR92,,55Whereas, this violence is an extension of a decades-long conflict stemming from failed policies inflicted on both Israelis and Palestinians; and SJR92,,66Whereas, hundreds of thousands of lives are at imminent risk if a cease-fire is not achieved and humanitarian aid is not delivered without delay; and SJR92,,77Whereas, this conflict is perpetuating a dangerous and costly lack of access to basic housing needs, compounding this health and humanitarian crisis; and SJR92,,88Whereas, the federal government holds immense diplomatic power to save Israeli and Palestinian lives; now, therefore, be it SJR92,,99Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature urges support for facilitating de-escalation and calling for a cease-fire to urgently end the current violence in Israel and in Gaza and the West Bank; and, be it further SJR92,,1010Resolved, That the Wisconsin Legislature urges support for an immediate release of all hostages and cessation of hostilities toward civilians by all parties in this war; and, be it further SJR92,,1111Resolved, That the Wisconsin Legislature urges support for promptly sending and facilitating the entry of humanitarian assistance including food, water, and medical supplies into Gaza; and, be it further SJR92,,1212Resolved, That the Wisconsin Legislature urges the end of the long-time occupation of Palestinian territories in order to ensure safety and self-determination for Palestinians and Israelis alike.
