SJR24,,33Whereas, Ellen Nowak was first appointed to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in July 2011 and reconfirmed for a full six-year term beginning on March 1, 2013; and SJR24,,44Whereas, Ellen Nowak was named Chairperson of the Public Service Commission in March of 2015; and SJR24,,55Whereas, Ellen Nowak was appointed Secretary of the Department of Administration in March of 2018, the second woman to ever hold the top appointed position in Wisconsin state government; and SJR24,,66Whereas, Ellen Nowak was reappointed to the Public Service Commission in January 2019; and SJR24,,77Whereas, Ellen Nowak has been a nationally recognized leader during her nearly 11 years of service on the Public Service Commission, serving in leadership roles for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), including being elected as NARUC president; and SJR24,,88Whereas, Ellen Nowak’s expertise on energy and utility regulation has been sought out by members of Congress and international organizations; and SJR24,,99Whereas, Ellen Nowak has served as a mentor for young female regulators in Europe and Eurasia; and SJR24,,1010Whereas, Ellen Nowak has helped ensure reliable and affordable energy for all of Wisconsin’s citizens and businesses; and SJR24,,1111Whereas, Ellen Nowak had a long career as a public servant prior to her time with the Public Service Commission, including service as chief of staff to the Waukesha County Executive and chief of staff to the Assembly Speaker; and SJR24,,1212Whereas, Ellen Nowak has been an active volunteer for several charities, including her church, a local hospice facility, and the World Orphan Fund; and SJR24,,1313Whereas, Ellen Nowak has been an exemplary public servant for most of her adult life; now, therefore, be it SJR24,,1414Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature thank Ellen Nowak for her faithful and exemplary service to the state and wish her well in her future endeavors.
