SB573,,33Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Current law requires officer recruits for law enforcement agencies, jails, or juvenile detention facilities to complete preparatory training and for law enforcement officers to complete annual recertification training. Under current law, the Law Enforcement Standards Board authorizes the reimbursement to political subdivisions of approved expenses. This bill requires LESB to pay the law enforcement agency for the approved preparatory expenses. Under current law, the approved expenses for annual recertification training must include at least $160 per law enforcement officer. This bill increases the minimum amount per officer to $320 and specifies that the law enforcement agency that employs the officer be paid for the approved expenses of the officer’s annual recertification training.
SB573,,44The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: SB573,15Section 1. 165.85 (5) (b) of the statutes is amended to read: SB573,,66165.85 (5) (b) The board shall authorize the reimbursement payment to each political subdivision law enforcement agencies of approved expenses incurred by recruits who satisfactorily complete training at schools certified by the board. Reimbursement Payment of these expenses for law enforcement officer, jail officer and juvenile detention officer preparatory training shall be for board approved tuition, living, and travel expenses. Reimbursement Payment of approved expenses for completion of annual recertification training under sub. (4) shall be provided to the law enforcement agency that employs the officer and shall include at least $160 $320 per officer thereafter per year. Funds may also be distributed for attendance at other training programs and courses or for training services on a priority basis to be decided by the department of justice.
