This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to offer in-person and online hunter education for persons under the age of 18. The bill also requires persons under the age of 18 to attend an in-person field training session and complete a certification exam following completion of the in-person or online course of instruction. The bill also requires DNR to promulgate rules establishing the curriculum, length, and fee for the courses.
Under current law, DNR must establish a hunter education program and bow hunter education program that provide instruction in the responsibilities of hunters, how to recognize threatened and endangered species, and principles of wildlife management and conservation. DNR is required to offer an online course of instruction for persons age 18 and older.
