SB126,,22An Act to amend 169.01 (28) of the statutes; relating to: the definition of public zoos and aquariums for purposes of captive wildlife regulations. SB126,,33Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Current law generally prohibits the possession, exhibition, propagation, sale, and purchase of wild animals without a relevant license issued by the Department of Natural Resources. Public zoos and aquariums, which are facilities operated by the state or by a city, village, or county or that are an accredited member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, are exempt from these license requirements.
This bill expands the definition of “public zoos and aquariums” to include those that are accredited members of the Zoological Association of America.

SB126,,44The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: SB126,15Section 1. 169.01 (28) of the statutes is amended to read: SB126,,66169.01 (28) “Public zoo or aquarium” means a zoo or aquarium that is operated by the state or by a city, village, or county or that is an accredited member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association or the Zoological Association of America.
