SB1098,,22An Act to amend 632.895 (17) (b) 2. of the statutes; relating to: coverage of sterilization procedures and patient education and counseling under health insurance policies and plans.
SB1098,,33Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, health insurance policies and self-insured governmental health plans that provide coverage of outpatient health care services, preventive treatments and services, or prescription drugs and devices are required to provide coverage of certain contraceptives and related services, including outpatient consultations, examinations, procedures, and medical services that are necessary to prescribe, administer, maintain, or remove a contraceptive. This bill requires that health insurance policies and self-insured governmental health plans that are required to provide such contraceptive coverage under current law also provide coverage for sterilization procedures and patient education and counseling. Health insurance policies are referred to in the statutes as disability insurance policies.
This proposal may contain a health insurance mandate requiring a social and financial impact report under s. 601.423, stats.
