AB874,,33Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau This bill prohibits the disposal of deer carcasses within 10 miles of a registered location where farm-raised deer are kept.
Under current law, a person may not dispose of a carcass the person knows is infected or suspected to be infected with a contagious or infectious disease in a manner that creates a significant and foreseeable risk of transmitting disease to humans or animals. A person may not dispose of any animal carcass in the waters of the state.
Under current law, a person keeping farm-raised deer must register with the Department of Natural Resources and comply with requirements relating to fencing. The person must also comply with applicable administrative rules promulgated by DNR and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
