AB138,,33Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the state superintendent of public instruction issues high school equivalency diplomas and general education development certificates to eligible individuals. Current law allows the state superintendent to charge a fee for an HSED or a GED. This bill requires that, upon determining an applicant is eligible and has paid any required fee, the state superintendent immediately issue an HSED or GED to the applicant by posting the HSED or GED, in a manner that maintains confidentiality, to the Department of Public Instruction’s website.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
